Viking Sunset
This uprooted and very old stump of a Bristlecone Pine (Pinus longaeva) in Inyo National Forest forms a striking Nordic image against an eastern skyline at sunset. The annual tree ring pattern from such specimens forms a continuous record of growth reflective of environmental conditions since the end of the last ice age or about 10,000 years ago.
