Foam & Tufa
The tufa (pronounced "toofah") of Mono Lake,
California, are composed largely of calcium carbonate
precipitates created where fresh water springs entered
the highly saline waters when the shoreline was much
higher than at present. This image was composed at
sunset in high winds. The strange tufa, lavender tones,
gossamer effect on the lake, and still sharply
defined beach foam compose beautifully.
